Day 26: 12 o’clock

Art is emotionally exhausting.
I’ve been living in LA for 5 years, but I went to LACMA for the first time today (lol that’s embarrassing) and oh my goodness WHAT A GREAT MUSEUM. Metropolis II was there and it was glorious and beautifully detailed.
A lot of contemporary art can go suck it, tbh, but they have some Pollock and Rothko and Mondrian and I really like those for some reason. Magritte is one of the few surrealists that I can actually appreciate and LACMA has the original Ceci n’est pas une pipe (omg!) and The Liberator.
They also had some Monet and Sisley and Renoir and Degas and that was one of our favorite rooms because, lbr, impressionism > everything else.
THE RENAISSANCE SCULPTURES THOUGH. They were my favorites. I just don’t understand how someone can take a slab of rock and make something so beautiful and intricate and delicate out of it. It doesn’t make sense in my brain. It makes me excited and angry. The worst are the ones with the floating fingers and veils and curly fucking hair. JUST. HOW. And OMG there was a Pieta from Spain that was so beautiful, it was physically painful to look at it. I just really really like religious art and I can’t look at Pietas and not feel like my body is being torn in half. One of my life goals is to go to St. Peter’s Basilica and see Michelangelo’s Pieta without having a breakdown. Just thinking about it gives me chills, man.
We also found the Ancient Egyptian gallery and that was amazing too because ancient civilizations are just crazy awesome. There was a sarcophagus with the actual human remains still inside yeeeeeaaaahhh.
THE RENAISSANCE SCULPTURES THOUGH. JUST LOOK AT DIS BEEZ.

SHE IS MARBLE. MARBLE!
Let’s take a moment to appreciate the awesomeness of Skylight Books’ website.
Day 30: Something that makes you sad. Inexplicably.
And that’s the end of photo-a-day-april.
The Pie Hole Los Angeles
Crying because The LA Times Festival of Books still is and probably always will be my number one favorite festival.
I wish I could’ve stayed longer today and I wish I could go again tomorrow.
I didn’t go last year because I was bitter and holding a grudge, but that was a huge mistake because it doesn’t matter if the festival is at UCLA or USC. What matters is that all these wonderful people come together to celebrate books and words and the BEAUTY and JOY that they bring to our lives and I am weeping now so I’m gonna stop right here.
I’m at The Griddle with a chai latte aaaaaaaahhhh
Scorching 82 degrees in LA. Rooftop pool with mangoes and friends.
Today is stellar.
Let’s talk about how today was the perfect day for public transportation.
-My bus took a detour through Hollywood, so I got to see colorful places and any view of the hills featured the Hollywood sign and I saw where Wicked is playing and I wanted to cry.
-I got to Sunset and Vermont early and the subway train was pulling in right as I was getting off the escalator.
-Also when the trains come, a strong gust of wind blows through the entire structure, it was lovely. My shirt flipped up a little, like Marilyn Monroe except not sexy.
-I got to Union Station 30 minutes ahead of schedule so I could catch the earlier train and still had time to get coffee!
-I finally used the Starbucks gift card that I got for taking a survey! I don’t get Starbucks unless I have a gift card, and it feels extra special with Christmas cups and flavors!
-I was standing by the tracks as the train was pulling in and when it stopped the door was directly in front of me! I felt like a princess omg.
-Now here I am with two seats all to myself. I just finished updating my daily journal and I’m about to continue reading City of Thieves so life is swell.
WHOLE FOODS PARKING LOT. I CAN’T BREATHE THIS IS THE FUNNIEST.
Then I take it to the cheese counter… HUMBOLDT FOG?
Everyone who works at The Griddle is really attractive and male. Sexually frustrated eating my giant pancakes.
Went to Gaucho Grill after the tie dye party yesterday to eat even more delicious foods. They basically had the same Dine LA menu from January. This time I had spinach and cheese souffle empanada, rack of lamb with asparagus, potatoes, and the most mouth-watering mint sauce. For dessert, dulce de leche crepes, which are a revelation.
LEGS CAME BEFORE WHEELS, OKAY, SO FUCK YOU AND YOUR CAR.
This is for everyone who has tried to run me over while I’m crossing the street.
